Medalta is a mission-driven organization dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and development of Medalta Potteries National Historic Site and the Historic Clay District as a world-class artistic and cultural hub. Through advocacy, collection, interpretation, educational programs, we strive to ensure that this national heritage site and our community’s rich industrial history remains accessible and valued for generations to come. These efforts are enhanced by the contemporary ceramics international Artists in Residence program.
Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of the Friends of Medalta Society and is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of Medalta. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED provides visionary leadership, builds partnerships, advances fund development efforts, and oversees programs that fulfill our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic vision and leadership to advance Medalta’s mission and sustainability.
- Program Oversight: Oversee heritage preservation initiatives, educational programs, and public outreach efforts.
- Operational Management: Supervise staff and volunteers, ensuring effective program execution and organizational efficiency.
- Financial Management: Ensure financial sustainability through budgeting, financial oversight, and resource allocation.
- Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary spokesperson, cultivating relationships with community partners, donors, government agencies, and the public.
- Fundraising & Development: Develop and implement fund development strategies, including grant writing, donor stewardship, endowment initiatives, and sponsorships.
- Board Relations: Collaborate with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates and strategic guidance.
Qualifications
- Passion for heritage preservation, history, and cultural education.
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in nonprofit management, history, museum studies, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit, heritage, or cultural sector.
- Proven track record in fund development, grant writing, and donor stewardship.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of heritage preservation regulations, policies, practices, and advocacy.
